The “Juncker for President” campaign goes to Utrecht
Brussels, 11 April 2014
On 11 April, the “Juncker for President” campaign bus travelled to Utrecht, the Netherlands. The EPP candidate for President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker participated at a party conference alongside the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) ahead of the European elections in May.
In the Janskerk of Utrecht, Jean-Claude Juncker was received by the CDA head of list for the European elections, Esther de Lange; and by Wim van de Camp, current head of the CDA delegation in the European Parliament, who both expressed their strong support for his bid to become Commission President.
At the party conference, Jean-Claude Juncker delivered a keynote speech to the party delegates in which he said: "The EU is the right level to jointly tackle major cross-border issues such as climate change, the environment, and our common response to the financial and economic crisis. The lack of regulation in the banking sector contributed to the financial crisis, this is why the EPP has fought for bank supervision in the eurozone to be placed at EU level in the future - to avoid that national taxpayers have to foot the bill for cross border banks in difficulty. It is things like this that are the real value-added of the EU.” (Click here to read his main messages in English and here to read them in Dutch)
