The “Juncker for President” Campaign lands in Valetta, Malta: five proposals to address immigration in Europe

The EPP candidate for President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker was in Valetta, Malta on 02 May to campaign with the Partit Nazzjionalista (PN).
In the morning, Jean-Claude Juncker arrived at the Headquarters of the Partit Nazzjionalista where he met its leader Simon Busuttil as well as the party’s candidates for the European elections. Following the meeting, Jean-Claude Juncker and Simon Busuttil held a joint press conference.
Jean-Claude Juncker met Lawrence Gonzi, who was Prime Minister of Malta between 2004 and 2013.
In the afternoon, Jean-Claude Juncker was received by the Prime Minister of Malta Joseph Muscat.
After the meeting with the Prime Minister, Jean-Claude Juncker joined Simon Busuttil and the PN candidates for the European elections for a campaign event in Attard, in which people were able to pose their questions to the candidate and where he presented his five point-plan to address the challenges of immigration in Europe.
The proposals, which were also published in the morning in an op-ed in the The Malta Independent include: implementing a Common European Asylum System; stepping up support provided by the European Assylum Support Office; improving cooperation with third countries, especially in Northern Africa; defining a system of legal immigration; and securing Europe’s borders.
